Doing a hair loss self diagnosis at home can already tell you a lot about the state and integrity of your hair. Much like many illnesses or health conditions, there are many tell-tale signs you can look for if you feel like your crowning glory is losing its volume. Thinning may be a key indicator of an underlying illness however, it could also simply be due to genetics that may be bound to happen as you reach a certain age.
Though many people assume adult males are typically the ones who have more tendency for hair loss, many women can also lose the volume of their hair due to many factors. Hormones and family history play a huge role when it comes to skin and hair. So it’s very important to try a hair loss self diagnosis test before you seek any kind of treatment.
Common Causes of Hair Loss
It’s actually not uncommon for us to lose at least 50 strands of hair per day. It also grows back to replace the fallen ones with healthy new strands. When hair loss occurs, new strands do not grow to replace the ones that were lost. This may be due to several factors whether you’re male or female.
1. Stress or Trauma
For people who are always under a lot of pressure, whether it’s from personal experiences or work-related stress, there is a high probability that this can induce hair loss. Finding time to relax or even going to therapy and meditation can help improve the overall well-being of not just your mental state, but also your hair and skin.
2. Hormonal Fluctuations
Hormones play a huge part in our bodily functions. Men and women who experience hair loss in their late 20s or early 30s might be due to hormonal fluctuations when they age. Women who also get pregnant or are within the menopausal stages may experience hair loss due to extreme hormonal changes in their bodies.
3. Genetics
This considered is one of the primary mainspring of hair loss for both adult males and females. Checking your family history can give you a lot of insight as to how your hair would turn out in the future. Doing a hair loss self diagnosis can actually allow you to check whether you’re prone to thinning and hair loss before the condition worsens.
Diagnosing Yourself for Hair Loss
Doing a hair loss self diagnosis is not complicated. You can simply do it at home before you get in the shower and measure whether the amount of hair loss you have is beyond normal. There are two easy ways you can try but we will always recommend seeing a doctor if you think the condition needs medical attention.
1. Pull and Tug
You can do this hair loss self diagnosis test by gently tugging or pulling at least 40 strands of hair from different parts of your scalp. If more than 5 strands of hair fall out, it is highly possible that you might be undergoing hair loss.
2. Check Strands of Your Hair
Comparing each strand of hair that falls out to the ones that are strong enough to stay on your scalp can give you an idea if there are problematic areas on your scalp. Though this hair loss self diagnosis test is not a hundred percent full proof, it could at least let you know whether some parts of your scalp do not have healthy follicles.
