Lone Survivor – A Revolutionary War Drama

The film is based on the real story of a terribly botched Navy SEAL operation in Afghanistan in 2005. The Navy initiated the operation intending to take out a notorious Taliban leader. However, the  enemy forces surpassed the miliatry by huge numbers.

The movie stars Wahlberg as Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, and Ben Foster, play the roles of Luttrell’s military nationals Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matthew Axelson respectively. Eric Bana also appears in the movie as Lieutenant Commander Erik S. Kristensen.

Lone Survivor is one of the best life war dramas produced, directed and filmed within a short period. This Mark Wahlberg-starring film was released on December 25 2013.

 Lone Survivor was a commercial success and recorded an uncertain worldwide gross of $154 million at the box office. I alsot received positive reviews from critics and a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Like Lone Survivor, both Deepwater Horizon and Patriots Day proved to be critical hits for Berg and Wahlberg.

Real armed forces were cast to make the film look as authentic as possible..

Several investors were willing to put in at least a million dollars to make the movie ‘Lone Survivor’.

Marcus Luttrell, on whom the story is based, can be found in the movie playing a minor role. He’s the SEAL that trips the coffee and tells the rookies to clean it up. 

Marcus is credited as ‘Navy Seal (uncredited)’. His character is ‘Frank’ or ‘Frankie’. He appeared another time riding the helicopter, that was sent to rescue the team but was ultimatly shot down, killing everyone on board.

Luttrell was awarded the Navy Cross by former President George W. Bush, and Lieutenant Michael Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously.
