OSRS Maximum Hitsplats: What You Need to Know

Here’s what you need to know about max hit in OSRS and the visual changes that will make it easier to spot a max hit.

Whether you like to PvP, kill bosses, enjoy slayer tasks, or purely AFK to train your combat skill at crabs or nightmare zone, every time you hit an enemy, you have a chance to hit zero or max hit them. A higher max hit means higher OSRS gold per hour for whatever activity you’re doing, and with more OSRS gold comes more potential to upgrade your gear and increase your max hit even more.

Simply put, your max hit depends on two factors: your current levels and your gear. Each piece of gear will give you a max hit based on your current combat level. If you use a cheaper weapon like the Abyssal Whip, which is currently worth around two mil OSRS GP, your max hit will be lower than when using a high-end weapon like the Ghrazi Rapier, that’s worth around 150 mil OSRS gold.

Your max hit is calculated for the three combat styles: melee, magic, and ranged.

Melee Max Hit

When considering the melee max hit, you should know that strength is the only combat skill that will affect how hard you hit. Your attack level will influence your accuracy or how often you hit the enemies, but strength is the skill that will dictate how hard you will hit them when you successfully hit them for OSRS gold.

This is why the most efficient way to train your combat skills to 99 is to first level your strength after level 75, so you’re sure to wallop the enemies. Your prayer also influences your max hit. Using the highest strength melee prayer—Piety—will boost your strength by 23 percent, making you hit harder.

Using Piety is a great way to increase your max hit to finish the kills faster and obtain more OSRS GP per hour. However, it’s also expensive as you often need to use prayer pots or super restores to replenish your prayer points unless you are prayer flicking.

The gear you’re using is the third thing you need to consider when looking at the melee max hit. Any gear that has a strength bonus will increase your max hit. That’s one reason everyone uses OSRS items like Bandos Tassets, Bandos Chestplate, or the imbued Berserker Ring for bosses or slayer tasks that work well with melee.

Another important aspect is the combat style you select on the weapon. Controlled will give you +1 strength, and aggressive will give you +3, while having the weapon on accurate or defensive will not modify your Strength.

Max Ranged Hit

Your max range hit is influenced by your range level, gear, ammunition, and prayer. The better the gear, the harder you’ll hit, and you should consider using gear with a ranged strength bonus.

The ammunition is also essential since there are types of ammunition with special effects such as ruby bolts (e) that have a unique effect of dealing a percentage out of your opponent’s total health. This is great to use against enemies with huge HP, such as the Corporeal Beast, Jad, and many other bosses. Praying Rigor will increase your range max hit and help you finish your enemies faster.

Magic Max Hit

The magic max hit is complex as it is dictated by variables such as your magic level, your gear, and the spell you are using, regardless if it’s a cast spell or an inbuilt spell from powered staves. For the spells, you will have a basic max hit starting at 2 for Wind Strike. You’ll be able to max hit 24 with the Fire Surge spell and 25 with the Iban staff spell on the standard spellbook.

On the combat spellbook ancient magicks, the base max hit starts at 13 damage with Smoke Rush and up to 30 damage on Ice Barrage. You’ll also be able to temporarily increase your max hit on the god spells by ten by using spells such as charge.

Powered staves will give you a max hit based on your magic level. Besides these, your max damage output can be further increased by specific pieces of magic equipment such as Ahrim Staff, Tormented Bracelet, the Ancestral set, Occult Necklace, Kodai wand, and many more.

An Imbued Slayer Helm or Tome of Fire also increases your magic damage output. The new item brought by Tombs of Amascut, Tumeken’s Shadow, has the highest possible magic max hit of 62, which can be increased to 69 when using the Imbued Slayer Helm on a slayer task.

The Latest Visual Update: Max Hit Trim

Regardless of which combat style you choose in your adventures, Jagex has brought a new visual update: the max hit trim! This means that you will see those numbers with a golden trim whenever you hit your full strength.

Even though you won’t be able to see other players’ max hit trims unless that damage is directed towards you, you will have a good indicator of how well you are doing. More max hits mean speeding up towards the kill and the potential loot/OSRS gold you can get from it. You can toggle the trim on and off from the settings and adjust it to display max hits starting with a particular value, which by default is 10. Good luck with hitting the big numbers, whether your max hit or OSRS gold drops!
