What is the Vinland Saga story?
Vinland Saga, a manga series created by Makoto Yukimura and featuring historical references, is the brainchild of Makoto. The series takes us back to 1002, when Thorfinn (the son of Thors Snorresson, and Helga) sets out to explore Vinland. We are taken on a rollercoaster ride through the events, where Thors is executed after defeating Askeladd. Thorfinn is also held hostage. Thorfinn is determined to take revenge against Askeladd after the death of his father. Thorfinn later joins Askeladd, and with sharpening of his skills, he becomes an incredibly skilled fighter.
The later episodes show Thorfinn fighting Thorkell and capturing Prince Canute. Askeladd is confronted by a mutiny of his men, as they question his leadership. He continues to murder his men. Thorfinn, however, tries to stop Askeladd from being killed by others and challenges Thorkell to a duel. The 19th episode reveals that Thorkell is related to Thorfinn; the former is the great uncle of the latter. Their animosity does not diminish. Thorfinn was able to seize an eye from Thorkell.
We see Thorfinn with a broken arm challenge Askeladd in a duel towards the end of season 1. Thorfinn is defeated by Askeladd even though he doesn’t have a sword. Later, he was sentenced. Sweyn gives Askeladd a reward for saving Prince Canute and asks him to choose Wales or Canute. Askeladd is killed by Canute in the final episode. Thorfinn attacks Canute, but in vain. As Thorfinn gathers a crew to colonize Vinland, the episode ends with Thorfinn suggesting that he will return with another season.
Is Vinland Saga going to have a second season?
The official announcement by Wit Studio in 2021 about Vinland Saga’s return with its second season was made to keep millions of fans hopeful. Shuhei Yabuta then posted the same to his Twitter account, sealing the speculations. The same team who directed and managed Vinland Saga season 1 will continue to manage it. Official announcements made clear that season 2 would be developed under Takahiko Asbiru’s supervision as the character designer. Shuhei Yabuta will continue to be the director. The cast and crew names have not been revealed by the production. It is expected to be nearly the same, with possible minor adjustments here and there.
